Psalm 22:1

My God Why Have You Forsaken Me

For the director of music. Upon the Doe of the Dawn. A psalm of David. My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Far from my salvation are the words of my roaring.

"Abandoned" renders עֲזַבְתָּנִי (azavtani), a strong word meaning to forsake or desert completely — not merely to be distant. "Roaring" renders שַׁאֲגָתִי (sha'agati), the cry of a lion or animal in anguish; conventional translations often soften this to "groaning" or "anguished cries," but the raw, animal force of the word is retained here. "Doe of the Dawn" (אַיֶּלֶת הַשַּׁחַר) is preserved as a musical or poetic title rather than translated interpretively.
