Berean Standard Bible
45From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land.
The Wooden Pole
From the sixth hour, darkness came over all the land until the ninth hour.
The word γῆν (gēn) can mean either "land" or "earth"; "land" is preferred here as it more naturally refers to the localised region rather than the entire planet, preserving the geographic specificity of the event. The verb ἐγένετο (egeneto) means "came to be" or "came over," rendered as "came over" to convey the onset of the darkness. Standard rendering otherwise from the source text.
Berean Standard Bible
45From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land.
King James Version
45Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.
Goodspeed New Testament
45Now from noon there was darkness over the whole country until three o’clock.
