34

Then Jesus called the crowd to Him along with His disciples, and He told them, “If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his and follow Me.

And he called the people and his disciples to him and said to them, “If anyone wants to go with me, he must disregard himself, and take his cross and follow me.

35

For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and for the gospel will save it.

For whoever wants to preserve his own life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for me and for the good news will preserve it.

36

What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?

For what good does it do a man to gain the whole world and yet part with his life?

37

Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?

For what can a man give to buy back his life?

38

If anyone is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in His Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

For if anyone is ashamed of me and my teachings in this unfaithful and sinful age, then the Son of Man will be ashamed of him, when he comes back in his Father’s glory, with the holy angels.”
