The scribe said to him, "Well said, Teacher. You have spoken truly that he is one, and there is no other besides him."
The phrase *εἷς ἐστιν* ("he is one") is rendered plainly to preserve the strict monotheism of the Shema being affirmed here — one God, Jehovah, with no other beside him. The scribe is explicitly endorsing Jesus's quotation of the Shema, and the translation keeps that theological force intact without softening or abstracting the oneness. *ἐπʼ ἀληθείας* ("upon truth") is rendered "truly" to capture its confirmatory weight.
