1When Jesus had spoken these things, He lifted up His eyes to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son may glorify You.
Jesus said these things, and lifting his eyes to heaven, he said: Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, so that the Son may glorify you.
The verb *ἐπάρας* (lifting) indicates a deliberate, physical upward gesture toward heaven, preserved here rather than softened to a vague "looking up." The structure of *δόξασόν σου τὸν υἱόν, ἵνα ὁ υἱὸς δοξάσῃ σέ* makes the mutuality of glorification explicit while preserving the directional logic: the Father glorifies the Son *first*, so that the Son may in turn glorify the Father — the Son's glorification is instrumental and derivative, not self-originated.
