Exodus 3:15

The Burning Bush

God said further to Moses: "This is what you shall say to the sons of Israel — Jehovah, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is my name forever, and this is my memorial to generation after generation."

The divine name יְהוָה (YHWH) is rendered as Jehovah, as the Pioneer Translation consistently does, preserving the personal name rather than substituting the title "LORD" as conventional translations do — this distinction is theologically significant in a passage where God is explicitly declaring his name. The verb שְׁלָחַנִי (sh'lachani) is rendered "has sent me," reflecting the sender/sent distinction central to this passage: Jehovah identifies himself and then declares himself the one who sends. The phrase לְדֹר דֹּר (l'dor dor) is rendered "generation after generation" to capture its rhythmic, emphatic force rather than flattening it to simply "all generations."

King James Version

15

God also told Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This is My name forever, and this is how I am to be remembered in every generation.

And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.
